Why #AllLivesMatter is racist
Yes, #AllLivesMatter is a racist term and hashtag. here is why
When a Black person says Black Lives Matter, he is specifically referring to the institutional racism, systemic racism and police brutality that the black community has had to deal with for over 200 years. They view Black Lives Matter as shout out to say that they need to be treated in the same way white people are treated in society and the system needs to be wholly reformed to make it happen. This the entire encompassing message.
When a white person replies by saying All Lives Matter, they are downplaying the entirety of the aforementioned struggle of the black person. In the context laid above, when the response is #AllLivesMatter, it is racist because they don’t see the system as being racist towards black community, they don’t see police brutality as an issue and they don’t see the black community struggling because of the institutional and systemic racism. They focus more on issues within the black community than the pressures imposed by society on them.
When a black person says #BlackLivesMatter they don’t mean all lives don’t matter, they do, they simply want black lives to be on equal footing to the white lives so by replying with #AllLivesMatter, you are denying that the struggles of the black community are real.
When a white person says All Lives Matter, they suggest their lives as white people are as much of a struggle as the black person. Statistics after statistics tell you otherwise. Common sense tells you otherwise. A white person in America lives in a position of privilege which a black person in the current system can only dream of attaining. It is also demeaning once you know that black lives matter term is specifically for the struggle of black people. It suggests that people who use it know it is knowing the struggles of the black people are simply trying to express their racism and prejudice in a manner which is not overt but when you realize how specific black lives matter is, it is overtly racist to counter it with all lives matter.
