Inconsistencies and holes in Tara Reade’s stories are bigger than her allegations

The 2019 Allegation

On April 3, 2019 The Union newspaper serving Nevada County, California published an allegation from Tara Reade about Joe Biden. Tara Reade used to work for Joe Biden from 1992 to 1993. The headline was:

Nevada County woman says Joe Biden inappropriately touched her while working in his U.S. Senate office

In this the woman Tara Reade, accuses Joe Biden of exhibiting non-sexual uncomfortable behavior like getting into her personal space, a behavior he has exhibited with men and women and 7 other women have accused him of the same. the actions were described as:

“He used to put his hand on my shoulder and run his finger up my neck,” Reade said. “I would just kind of freeze and wait for him to stop doing that.”

Tara Reade mentions in this article that she says she overheard people saying that Biden liked Reade’s legs. She did not hear this from Biden himself.

Reade says she was demoted out of Biden’s office after she refused to serve drinks because of overhearing Biden’s opinion of her legs

Reade opted against serving drinks, a move she believes sidelined her career.

In the same article Reade mentions she asked a friend if there was anything wrong with Biden’s behavior.

She talked to the senate personnel office about the above issues and she says the Biden office retaliated against her in what she says was “living hell”. She eventually quit the job.

Reade told the reporter

Reade said she didn’t consider the acts toward her sexualization.

She also said

Then Biden ran on Barack Obama’s ticket. Reade thought he may have changed.

The story above showcases that Tara Reade had more of an issue with Biden’s office handling of Biden being too much in people’s personal spaces than Biden himself. This is confirmed by the unpublished interviews by AP and Washington Post

The unpublished AP and Washington Post Interviews of April 2019

The unpublished AP and Washington Post interviews were made public in May 2020 after Biden spoke about the allegations.

2019 AP interview

In the AP interview as well, she does not describe Biden’s acts as sexual harassment or assault. In it she says

“They have this counseling office or something, and I think I walked in there once, but then I chickened out.” She made a similar statement in a second interview with AP that same day, according to written notes from the interview.

If you notice she says she talked to the senate personnel office to the union paper which resulted in her demotion but to AP she says she walked in and chickened out. She told AP this twice in 2019

remember, in all 3 interviews with Union, AP, Washington Post she only mentions being uncomfortable while her focus seemed to be more on the staff often as opposed to Biden. More on that later.

In the 2020 followup, she tells AP that by “chickening out” she meant she walked in, filed the intake report about Biden making her uncomfortable but nothing else.

On Friday, Reade said she was referring to having “chickened out” by not filing full harassment or assault allegations against Biden. In multiple interviews with the AP on Friday, Reade insisted she filed an “intake form” at the Senate personnel office

Here is another except from the 2019 interview which matches the 2019 union story

During one of the April 2019 interviews with the AP, she said Biden rubbed her shoulders and neck and played with her hair.

She told AP Biden’s actions didn’t seem malicious or sexual. again matching her 2019 Union story

She said of Biden: “I wasn’t scared of him, that he was going to take me in a room or anything. It wasn’t that kind of vibe.”

She also tells AP in a 2020 interview the following

Reade says she was reluctant to share details of the assault during her initial conversations with reporters over a year ago because she was scared of backlash, and was still coming to terms with what happened to her.

What is interesting about this is that in her podcast interview with Katie Halper, she clearly says she wanted to talk about her sexual harassment and assault in her PUBLISHED interview with Union Reporter but stopped because she says the Union Reporter was being aggressive in his interviewing. However she never opened up to AP or Washington Post either.

2019 Washington Post interview

In the 2019 interview with Washington Post, she does not describe harassment or assault.

She does not lay the total blame on Biden but focused on his staff in her interview with Washington post

“This is what I want to emphasize: It’s not him. It’s the people around him who keep covering for him,” Reade said, adding later, “For instance, he should have known what was happening to me. . . . Looking back now, that’s my criticism. Maybe he could have been a little more in touch with his own staff.”

This correlates with her Union newspaper interview where she was upset with Biden’s staff for demoting her after she refused to serve drinks

2020 Allegations

In March 2020, Tara Reade was interviewed by both Ryan Grim and Katie Halper, both outspoken Bernie supporters and frequent Biden critics. In the interviews with them Reade accused Biden of rape.

According to Reade, Biden had been speaking with another person, who walked away as she approached. “All at once,” she said, Biden pressed her against a wall.

“He just had me up against the wall, and the wall was cold. And I remember, he – it happened all at once. The gym bag, I don’t know where it went, I handed it to him, it was gone, and then his hands were on me, and underneath my clothes,” Reade said. “He went down my skirt, but then up inside it, and he penetrated me with his fingers.”

Along with these allegations she tweeted multiple times that she was threatened and fired by Biden and his staff as a result.

Tara Reade’s brother

Tara Reade’s brother Collin corroborated her 2019 account when he was interviewed in 2019 but he has stumbled multiple times in 2020 when asked about the new allegations. For example he was asked by abc news about the rape allegations

He said he remembered Reade had mentioned experiencing “harassment at work” from Biden during her brief stint in his office. Moulton said he recalled advising his sister to try and push past it, something he later regretted. Moulton initially said he only heard her account of the assault this spring.

He told abc he only found out about the assault in 2020. Later he texted abc news back

After the initial interview in late March, Moulton texted ABC News later that day to “clarify” his account, saying he remembered his sister telling him in 1993 that Biden had “more or less cornered her against the wall” and ‘put his hands ‘up her clothes.’”

He lapsed again a second time in his interview with Washington Post

In another recent interview, Reade’s brother, Collin Moulton, said she told him in 1993 that Biden had behaved inappropriately by touching her neck and shoulders.

But just like with abc news he contacted Washington Post after his initial to clarify his remarks on the very crux of the allegation.

Several days after that interview, he said in a text message that he recalled her telling him that Biden had put his hand “under her clothes.”

Tara Reade’s neighbor

Tara Reade’s previous neighbor named Lynda LaCasse told Business Insider that she was told by Tara Reade in 1995–1996 about the alleged rape.

LaCasse: I remember her saying, here was this person that she was working for, and she idolized him. And he kind of put her up against a wall. And he put his hand up her skirt and he put his fingers inside her. She felt like she was assaulted, and she really didn’t feel there was anything she could do.

This is the description provided by her neighbour. There is another interesting aspect of the interview with business inside being overlooked

McHugh: When did this come on your radar again?

LaCasse: Just recently. Tara called me and said, “Oh my gosh, this Joe Biden thing is coming up again.” I said, “Oh my God, that.” I had forgotten about it.

LaCasse describes herself as a die hard very loyal democrat but she forgot about the rape allegation in the 8 years Biden was a Vice President of the United States

She also mentions that Reade and her parted ways and Reade reached out to her in 2016. Remember that LaCasse is one of the few people Reade told.

McHugh: When did you first reconnect with Tara after she moved away? Was that 2016?

LaCasse: I think that was about it, yeah.

She says Reade brought up her story again in 2019

McHugh: OK. After you and Tara reconnected, when was the first time you discussed the Biden accusation, and the conversations you and Tara had about it?

LaCasse: I think it was last year.

The interesting part here is that Reade did not tell one of the few people she told about the assault that she came forward against Biden in 2019

McHugh: OK. Did you see Tara’s comments in The Union, a Nevada County, California, newspaper, in April of last year, when she said Biden made her uncomfortable and touched her, but didn’t say he assaulted her?

LaCasse: I don’t know. I really have not…

McHugh: You don’t recall seeing her comments in the paper?

LaCasse: No.

Also important is the part that Tara Reade reached out and discussed this with Lynda LaCasse before she contacted McHugh from the Business Insider.

Journalist Nathan J Robinson’s coaching of Reade and her brother

In his article regarding Tara Reade’s allegations Nathan Robinson of Guardian and Current affairs wrote this wrote this

Back before the story came out, I actually warned Tara myself during our conversation that it didn’t sound from Marcotte’s inquiries that she was interested in being fair and recommended being cautious about her. I think that concern was vindicated. Marcotte used the fact that she couldn’t get a comment from Tara’s brother and friend as one of the “red flags” that justified the media’s silence on Tara’s accusation.

You have to ask why an ‘independent’ journalist is coaching the accuser on how to approach interviewers . If this is not clear cut he showcases again about coaching Reade’s brother about doing interviews on the allegation

So here Nathan Robinson shows us that it was as a result of his coaching that Reade’s brother contacted Washington Post again to clarify his story

Point of note: Nathan Robinson is admittedly a Sanders supporter and has been vehemently critical of Biden well before this allegation surfaced.

Location of the assault in 2020 allegation

Tara Reade told Katie Halper in her podcast that she met Biden in the basement with his gym bag where the assault she claims happened.

Andrew Feinberg who is a reporter for Newsweek and Independent found a lot of odd things in her description of the location where this occurred

There are a lot of inconsistencies in what Reade describes in this thread and be adds another issue

Did Reade not know that when she filed her police report against Biden that she filed it with the type of police that does not investigate crimes in the Capitol complex ?

The Larry King call

There was a woman who called Larry King in August of 1993 and was talking about how her daughter could resolve an issue in her old workplace. This was presented as a form of a smoking gun to corroborate her 2020 rape allegation but it you read the entire layout of the 2019 and 2020 allegations they seem to mesh perfectly with the 2019 allegations and not with the rape and assault story of 2020.

Here is the full transcript of the conversation:

Note the words: “out of respect for him” and “could not get through with her problems at all”

This came out in April 2020. Here is how Reade described the call from her mother in March 2020 before anyone else saw that video (because Reade claims she never saw the video before)

Reade told The Intercept that her mother called in asking for advice after Reade, then in her 20s, left Biden’s office. “I remember it being an anonymous call and her saying my daughter was sexually harassed and retaliated against and fired, where can she go for help? I was mortified,” Reade told me.

Reade tries to frame what would have been said in the video as per her 2020 allegation but listening and reading it it more aligns with her 2019 story

Tara Reade’s consistent inconsistencies

  • Tara Reade deleted a medium post which she wrote in 2018 about being pro Russian and pro Putin. The issue is not really that she deleted it, the issue is she straight up lied that she never deleted it and that it’s still up.
  • She praised her rapist multiple times on her previous twitter account on her own volition. This would be in line with her 2019 allegation being true but a bridge too far with her 2020 allegation.
  • She said she would vote for Biden if he backed off Russia. Her excuse for her pro Putin posts were that she was writing for her novel, fine, but they have no bearing on saying as long as Biden or any democratic candidate backs off Russia, he will get her vote
  • She mentions she talked to managers and Biden senior staff in 2019 interviews but in 2020 interviews she started by saying she submitted a complaint about sexual assault allegations followed up by saying she didn’t write assault of harassment in the form and finally now saying she does not exactly remember what she wrote in the complaint and maybe the words she used according to her was uncomfortable and retaliation. The issue with saying retaliation is in all her 2019 interviews she says the retaliation happened after her she complained about Biden
  • She says she chickened out of the senate personnel office but as per the office guidelines of filing formal complaints , she never met the prequisite to file one which means the complaint was not failed as a result it would have not reached Biden’s office and neither would it reach the ethics committee chairman at the time. Mitch McConnell.
  • Not a single woman or man from Biden’s office at that time has come forward or even anonymously come forward to confirm either Tara Reade’s 2019 accusation or the new one in 2020 in fact none of them have confirmed if even the culture was like that.
  • Her 2019 stories consistently focused on fact that Biden was too much into personal space but that the bigger issue was his staff and them protecting him. In fact to multiple interviewers not only to the union but also to AP and WAPO Reade did not consider Biden’s actions as sexual or threatening.
  • She got her story out on the Union in April 2019 but she was not satisfied. She tweeted over 400–500 times from April 2019 to March the same tweets over and over that no one is giving her attention even though she got it published in the newspaper. The only time it did get attention was through two extremely anti Biden journalists and a story which changed from being uncomfortable to rape.
  • Her argument about why she never came forward in 2019 with the assault allegation does not make sense logically. First, she told two different reasons to two different outlets in a space of a month. She told Katie Halper that she wanted to talk about the assault but the “aggressive” reporter from the union shut her down. Ok. If you accept this, why did she not mention it to the AP and Washington Post who also interviewed her at the same time. But then she also told AP in 2020 that she didn’t come forward about assault in 2019 because she was afraid of the backlash and security which then also contradicts what she told Katie Halper just a month earlier.
  • In 2019 the union interview, to AP and to WAPO she said she resigned. By end of April her twitter feed started saying she was fired and by March 2020 and with her new story she said she was not only fired by threatened by Biden himself.
  • There is a confusion about what she complained about in 2019. If you look at the interviews in 2019 she seemed to be complained more about her treatment by Biden’s staff while in 2020 that changed and the staff took a back seat and she adjusted her story to say she complained about Biden and Biden alone.
  • In 2009 she wrote a blog under her old name and mentioned she left due to her then boyfriend place as a reason for leaving DC. In 2018 in her deleted blog she mentioned the reason she left DC was due to her anger at American imperialism. By 2019 she says she resigned due to bullying from Biden’s staff. In 2020 she says she was fired by Biden and his team. All of these cannot be true at the same time.
  • She said her motivations were not political but she constantly pushed conspiracy theories against Biden on twitter such as saying the billionaires and DNC are ensuring Biden wins the nomination. By tweeting that Biden was corrupt in the Ukraine scandal. By tweeting that Biden was being stuffed up In debates in order to be coherent. By tweeting and asking Bernie to stay in twice because “she had a story to tell which would be out soon.
  • She has all her copies of her 12 months working with Biden in 1993 but she does not have a copy of the complaint on an action “that changed the trajectory of her life”.
  • She mentions in her 2009 blog piece that she flew from her place to DC to start her new job in DC. In her 2019 blog piece accusing Biden she said she drive cross country to start a job in DC.
  • She has been silently editing her medium blog posts from 2019 to Match her 2020 story. This is a pattern of trying to mislead people that her original take was not Biden’s staff issues and Bidens personal space issues but actually her new story of rape
