S**t Sandwich

There comes a time when we have to ask ourselves, What the hell is going on? For some this came about on inauguration day as a lot of those still in shock after the election woke up from their denial phase slumber hoping and praying that maybe, just maybe this was all a ruse and we might at worst, get another Reagan. I think all of us can confidently say, after four weeks, that we are well beyond uncharted territory.

Some people like Trump telling it like it is..so lets tell it like it is.

Many analysts and commentators have noted that a lot of Trump support is by those suffering from economic anxiety. Now I do think there are many who genuinely feel that the system is against them yet they voted for someone who has by all accounts chosen a very swamp filled White House. A considerable number of these ‘economic anxiety’ voters are actually folks who base their ‘anxiety’ on the fact that people who don’t look like them are increasing around them and taking their jobs. Their view is that all these, lets just say it, Non-White people are all outsiders, immigrants or illegals, depending on who you talk to. Then there is another smaller segment of the White voter who is genuinely racist, a minority among the white voting class but still sizable. When you have this many people still waving the confederate flag in their homes, or on their cars, they are not celebrating their heritage. They know, we know, everyone knows they are celebrating the hate that the flag represents and they will not fool any sane person no matter what they say. If you see a German flying the Nazi flag, he is not celebrating his heritage, he is celebrating the hate it represents.

There is a lack of basic civility and goodness in many, many Trump voters. Not all mind you as there are a considerable number of people who just ignore the ignorance and chaos that Trump represents and just want that long awaited tax return and that is well within their rights, after all who doesn’t want monetary security even if it brings social unrest. There are a considerable number of leftists who also share this lack of civility and chaos. The person who punched Richard Spencer, the white supremacist, did himself and society no favors by acting like an idiot and did what a white supremacist would himself do if the shoe was in the other foot. Same goes for those who turn a protest into a riot, break property, ruin livelihood just because they can’t control their rage…you know, like the white supremacists themselves would do if the shoe was on the other foot.

But there are a considerable number of good people, a high percentage who are not impressed or supportive of Trump. No good person cheers the fact that a Syrian child, whose mother and herself are attempting to escape ISIS and the Assad are being told, they are not welcome even after years of vetting. What kind of human being says that this child and mother should instead find a place in another country because its the country is somehow full. Are you suddenly going to push for society to limit the number of children they can have because the country is getting ‘full’? No. No good person is happy that a 4 month Iranian infant was banned from travelling to the US for life saving heart defect because they think that will somehow make America safe. No good person cheers a 5 year old Iranian separated from their parent because of the travel ban. No good person cheers a 74+ year old in a wheelchair being ‘extreme vetted’ as somehow keeping the country safe. Lets just be clear, any person who lacks the clear judgement to think travel bans are good even if they separate families is not a good person. You can scream you are, you can cry you are, you can beg you are, you are a hater and are ignorant. A hater of even peaceful people you consider the ‘other’ because of their religion and race. You are a hater of basic empathy, hater of tolerance and hater of the very idea behind the constitution let alone the constitution itself. If you are a Muslim supporting the ban, you are against the essence of the religion itself. If you are a Christian supporting the ban, you throw dirt on the teachings of Jesus himself, if you are an atheist supporting the ban, you shouldn't even bother telling me that religion is the root of evil, you just proved yourself wrong.

When a member of the press replays the words of Trump or shows the President’s own tweets, that is not what we call ‘Fake News’. Science is not ‘Fake News’. Climate Change is not ‘Fake News’. It is completely nonsensical that if a poll is shown as positive, that is real but if a poll is shown as negative, its fake. Going by that argument anything negative about Trump is fake news. He is not your God, he is a celebrity who became president obsessed with Electoral victory and ratings, is hiding his tax returns and has gone through 6 bankruptcies and you voted him in to fix your ‘economic anxiety’? No group of supporters which believe in ‘meme magic’ and trolling can get too far in life without realizing elections have consequences and real life changes can have a significant negative effect when the person who is sitting in the most powerful seat in the world is still in campaign mode, hating on half the country and having a serious communication and control issue. Trolling and hate will not make America great again, it never has, and it never will. Economic Anxiety while ignoring bigotry, sexism and hate will not make America great again. Calling everything negative as Fake News will not make America great again. Arresting DACA status immigrant with no criminal record will not make America great again. Deporting mother of American children will not make America great again. Chaos or narcissism will not make America great again. Racism, Antisemitism and Islamophobia will not make America great again. All the above will only make America hate again and in many cases the hate based on ideology, race and religion has increased exponentially in the past year. There is not a single society which has thrived because of hate and looking at the history of the United States, it has defeated many aspects of hate which rose up. There are an incredible number of good people in this country of all faiths, color and ethnicity and I know they will not stand with the hate and ignorance that seems to have infiltrated the minds of many Americans. I am a Muslim, I interact with a number of people everyday, most of them white and there is not a single inkling of hate from almost all of them. They are the protectors of this nation and the constitution, they will be the teachers of our children, they are the professionals and civil servants who are the barrier to hate. They are the revolutionaries and the children of their ancestral immigrants and students of history.

I hope and pray this ‘S**T Sandwich’ as Ret. Vice Adm. Bob Harward described his job offer goes away and we see some semblance of normalcy and Americanism. You can think of protesting, but protesting only gives you a picture for the history books. To reverse and remove hate you have to change the person from within which can only occur by confronting hate with civility, education and the Truth.
